Mike Tooke C.Eng MEI
Director
Mike is a Chartered Energy Engineer and member of the Energy Institute, with over 25 years’ experience in the energy and utilities sector and is the Technical lead for 2G BioPOWER. Since 2007 he’s been supporting the development of biofuel & waste-to-energy projects with a focus on Advanced Thermochemical Conversion (ACT) processes (gasification and pyrolysis) to produce power, liquid and gaseous fuels, and to recover materials. Mike has conceived thermal conversion projects and secured preliminary grant funding to convert waste into synthetic natural gas (under the DfT’s F4C programme) and biomass into biomethanol; presented to the Secretary of State for Energy. More recently Mike managed and secured grant funding for 2GBP’s feasibility study and provides consultancy services to industry and UK Government Departments, including BEIS, its predecessor, DECC and the DfT on both thermal processes and capital projects. Forever the ‘big kid’, Mike is retained by his ‘Alma Mater’, the University of Liverpool, on technology commercialisation and had undertaken process, financial and economic modelling on numerous projects.
Howard Jackson
Director
Howard sadly passed away in September 2023. His great passions were motorsport and the environment and it’s easy to see why his focus at 2G BioPOWER was promotion. Through the ‘naughties’ Howard facilitated a 2-car racing team which ran competitively in the British Touring Car Championship - fuelled on E85 Bioethanol - and was pivotal in gaining acceptance for the use of bio-ethanol in racing. He was involved in managing a driver in UK Clio Cup and the placement of a Porsche 935 driver into the European Classic Endurance Racing series, culminating in competing at Le Mans where he played an integral part in the funding and setting up of the team.   Howard had his own design and build-focussed construction companies. Projects included prestige hospitality suites at Brands Hatch, The Oval, Goodwood, Twickenham and a comprehensive engine building and testing facility for the "works" BMW British Touring Car team. Other clients include Sir Jack Brabham, Courage Breweries/Fosters, Grand Metropolitan, Lucas CAV, Sears Property, Tiphook plc and PC World. Howard was evangelical about the closed loop potential of tyres to tyres and fuel.
Miles Thomas MRICS - Director
Director
Miles is a Chartered Surveyor and responsible for property origination and commercial matters at 2G BioPOWER. Most recently he was Group Property Director for Miller Turner, one of the UK’s leading developers of energy from waste facilities and prior to that, a Director of Savills for nearly 10 years, heading up Transactional Services for their' 'clean-tech' M&A business. Previous roles were Head of Development and Head of Operations for Savills Energy & Infrastructure. Miles' enthusiasm and hunger has led to involvement in a vibrant portfolio of work and an enviable network of leading landowners, investors and operators across the real estate and infrastructure sectors. Miles has a Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Urban Property Surveying from Northumbria University and is only doing this so Howard will mentor his eldest son into the British Kart Championships
